SPRING FETE AND CROWNING OF THE ROYAL PARTY
MAY BANK HOLIDAY

A time for family fun, games, craft stalls and to see the crowning of the new carnival queen!

Our Spring Fete is held on May Bank Holiday on The Green in Shaldon. There are plenty of stalls and games to delight and keep you and the family occupied.

This event is also the first official event for the new year's Water Carnival Royal Party. Having been lucky in our selection process, the King / Queen and Princes / Princesses will attend their Crowning Ceremony in all of their finery. The King / Queen will be crowned by the retiring King / Queen from the previous year.

Specific event information for the current year will be posted
closer to the event date on our Next Event and Latest News pages.... keep checking back !

The Royal Party

In preparation for Water Carnival Day and upholding the Carnival traditions, each year we select a new Royal Party to represent Shaldon.

If you would like to be King, Queen, Prince or Princess to represent Shaldon at the Water Carnival Events, please read the following information:-

Royal Party Application and Selection
  • The boys and girls must live in the Parish of Shaldon or Ringmore and be in Year 6 in a primary school; this does not have to be Shaldon Primary School.
  • Starting in November, we invite parents/guardians to submit an application for the roles of Carnival King / Queen, Prince / Princess.
  • Closing date for applications is the 31st January.
  • At our AGM (normally held in February) we then select the Royal Party from the applications submitted.
  • We invite the children and parents/guardians to attend our AGM. Notification of the date and venue for the AGM will be provided.

Role of The Royal Party
  • To attend the Crowning Ceremony at The Spring Fete held on Shaldon Village Green on the May Bank Holiday
  • To take part on the Shaldon Water Carnival float in The Teignmouth Carnival in July
  • To open and attend Shaldon Water Carnival on the first Saturday in August

Dates are confirmed each year; please ensure that before entering your child into the application process that she/he can attend on all dates.

Our part and Your part...
Shaldon Water Carnival provides outfits for the king, queen, princes, princesses, but we do ask that shoes are provided by the child's parents/guardians.

We need parents/guardians of the Royal Party to get involved in the clothes selection and be responsible for getting their children to events, pick up points and hairdressers at the set times.

On Water Carnival Day we provide a mid-day meal for the children, however we need parents/guardians to be responsible for their children on the beach as the committee are busy running stalls and events, fully committed to keeping the day functioning smoothly.

By signing the application form you give your permission for photographs taken of your child at our events to be used on our website, in Water Carnival publications and in the local press.

If you have any questions, please get in touch or click here to go to the Event Forms page to download the application form.

Forms must submitted by the 31st January to:-
